Presidential Library at the Book Salon 2024

The Presidential Library presents a number of events within the framework of the XIX St. Petersburg International Book Salon, which is held on Palace Square from May 16 to 19, 2024.

This year, the main book festival of the city is timed to coincide the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin and the Year of the Family. The main program of the book salon is aimed at showing the diversity of literary life in Russia.

The organizer of the Book Salon is the Government of St. Petersburg represented by the Committee for Press and Interaction with the Media with the support of the Russian Book Union.

The Presidential Library holds a number of events at the Palace Square as part of the Book Salon. In Pavilion A, at the library's stand, video materials about digital collections posted on the Library's's portal are available. These are collections Memory of the Great Victory, Constitution - Basic Law, Russian People, Territory of Russia, House of Romanov, Outer Space, which includes the personal file of Yuri Gagarin; a set of digitized archival documents, film and photo materials World War II in archival documents, which is being formed jointly with the Federal Archival Agency. The holdings of the Presidential Library are in demand by the society. The Presidential Library became the only library which resources were included in educational publications. Of all the Internet links in new textbooks, more than 15% of QR-codes lead to the collections of the Presidential Library, which contain more than 15 thousand documents and materials on the history of Russia.  This information will be presented at the stand.

For the first time, postcards and lithographs with historical views of St. Petersburg, collections issued by the Presidential Library, as well as products with the logo of the country's first electronic library (which celebrates 15th anniversary this year) are available at the stand.

On May 16 an open lecture "From the heart of St. Petersburg to the Heart of Moscow" was held in the lecture hall of Pavilion B, where visitors listened about the history of the buildings of Kitay-Gorod, where the Reserve Center of the Presidential Library in Moscow is located. At the end of the lecture, there was a quiz with a prize - certificate for a free tour of the historical building of the Synod, where the Presidential Library is located.

On May 19 in the Pavilion "G" Presidential Library held a lecture "Implementation of educational and informational projects using documents from the Presidential Library holdings", prepared by the department of educational and informational programs of the institution.

The XIX St. Petersburg International Book Salon occupies an area of 15 thousand square meters and is open to visitors from 11:00 to 20:00 daily. More than 250 exhibitors' stands are spread out in four exhibition halls – a book terrace will connect them. A swing and a large floor lamp will also be installed on the square. A new photo zone will appear, imitating the cover of a giant book, and the Literary Mail will work.

Among the participants of the book salon are publishing houses, libraries, museums, literary magazines, newspapers, universities. Publishing houses from Tatarstan, Chechen Republic, Crimea, Sevastopol and other regions of Russia, as well as foreign delegations are invited.
